The EnviroScape interactive units dramatically demonstrate water pollution -- and its prevention. EnviroScape programs communicate to people of all ages that we share responsibilities in preventing water pollution.
The EnviroScape Program currently consists of Nonpoint Source, Wetlands, Coastal, Hazardous Materials, and Landfill units, a Riparian Kit, and a Groundwater Kit. It also includes optional setup videos and curriculum.

EnviroScapes are engaging and effective in creating a real sense of understanding through experience and hands-on demonstration. This makes complex issues much clearer and helps people see how to prevent water pollution in their own communities.
The three-dimensional landscapes (approx. 25" x 30" x 5") illustrate residential, recreational, agricultural, industrial and transportation areas -- all representing possible sources of water pollution. Children and adults learn by using chemicals (drink mix) and loose soil (cocoa) throughout a typical community to see how their actions and those of others may affect our water quality. EnviroScape actually emphasizes pollution prevention with a follow-up demonstration that shows how to prevent such pollution through the use of best management practices.
As more than one user has told us, EnviroScape is "the best educational tool we have." In addition to being successfully used with students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, EnviroScape is also used by universities, soil and water conservation districts, city governments, utility companies, consultants and civic and environmental groups around the world.
The Groundwater Kit and the Riparian Kit can be used with any of the scenarios -- Nonpoint Source, Wetlands, Hazardous Materials or Landfill.
As an option, you can also purchase the Deluxe Heavy-duty Carrying Case that can hold 1 EnviroScape unit plus the groundwater and riparian kits. The Carrying Case has wheels for easy movement, can be shipped, and is airline transportable as checked baggage.
As another option, you can purchase the Nylon Shoulder Bag (black in color, with red straps). It holds 1 unit and is very durable and water proof.
Each EnviroScape model comes with a corresponding User's Guide that contains factually correct and balanced information and activities that are peer-reviewed and approved. It's comprehensive and flexible enough to be used as a stand-alone curriculum or as a way to complement and expand an existing curriculum.

EnviroScape Coastal is the newest in the series of successful EnviroScape models. It consists of a landscape (topographical) map with clear base, and includes accessories such as a resort building, marina, gasoline storage tank, and other related items. A comprehensive user's guide is also included.
The front of the model remains clear for a view of the ocean and interchangeable coral reef or shellfish bed.
The model represents typical sites found in a coastal area and watershed, such as
gas station, underground storage tanks and marina,
residential homes with septic systems, and
It demonstrates point sources and nonpoint sources of pollution -- and the effects of both on wetlands, estuaries, the ocean, beaches and even coral reefs and shellfish beds. The user fills the ocean, harbor, estuary, marina and other waterways with water.
To demonstrate nonpoint sources of pollution, cocoa (soil) and drink mixes (chemicals) are placed on the model and rain is simulated. You can follow the flow of rain and what it picks up along the way. Trash and other contaminants can also be placed on the model.
Point sources of pollution and groundwater contamination can be demonstrated as well. For example, a leaking underground storage tank may contaminate groundwater. If this occurs, you'll be able to see such contamination through the side of the model.
Preventive measures are also demonstrated.
We all make trash -- landfills will always be needed to accept trash that cannot be recycled or converted. Modern methods for solid waste disposal on land are difficult to explain and often misunderstood. Many people believe a landfill is a hole in the ground where our trash is dumped and left.
EnviroScape Landfill demonstrates how modern landfill systems of today differ from "dumps" of the past. The model and activities show
collection and management in a landfill cell . . .
including recirculation and off-site treatment;
liner failure; and
use of back-up detection and collection systems;
closure of a completed landfill cell with a capping system; and
comparison of a modern landfill system to old-style disposal.
EnviroScape Landfill comes with the groundwater liner to show protection of the aquifer by modern systems as compared to contamination from the "dump."
EnviroScape Landfill is a wonderful tool for helping people of all ages understand how a modern landfill works.
Rain is simulated on an active landfill cell on the model, so the viewer can follow the flow of the rain through the solid waste.
The leachate is collected and then recirculated from the tanks back through the trash or transported from the tanks to a wastewater treatment plant (the treatment plant is not actually shown on the model.)
Solid waste is represented with sponges and the leachate collection pumps and wells are represented with clear tubing and spray pumps.
A landfill cover is also provided to show how rain flows off the impermeable cover or "cap" to stormwater retention areas.

This unit can also demonstrate point and nonpoint source pollution. Areas included on the model: construction, residential, forest, agriculture, transportation and industrial. Sponges represent wetlands and show the water absorption and water holding capacity of wetlands. Constructed wetlands are represented with felt swatches.

EnviroScape® Groundwater Kit
The EnviroScape Groundwater Kit provides basic demonstrations on how groundwater works, how we use groundwater, how we pollute groundwater and how we can prevent and clean up groundwater contamination. It covers the basics and is not intended for use as a highly technical demonstration.
The kit comes with a durable plastic liner with a silk-screened depiction of unsaturated/saturated soils, aquifer and bedrock layers that inserts into any EnviroScape base. Private wells and pumps (clear tubing and spray pumps), an abandoned well (clear tubing), and User's Guide are also included.
NOTE: EnviroScape Landfill comes with a groundwater liner. If you want to use the EnviroScape Wetlands model with the groundwater kit, some modifications will need to be made to the wetlands landscape top by our headquarters office.
EnviroScape® Nonpoint Source Model
Nonpoint Source is the first in the EnviroScape series -- also know as EnviroScape I and EnviroScape II.
Water pollution comes from many sources. Nonpoint sources contribute a great deal to the pollution in our water bodies. The combined affect of pollution from many small sources can have a real impact on the quality of our shared water resources.
EnviroScape Nonpoint Source tracks pollution from nonpoint sources, including residential areas, forestry, transportation, recreation, agriculture and construction, as well as from industry as a point source. Pollution and runoff are visually apparent when rain falling over the landscape top carries soil (cocoa), chemicals (colored drink mixes) and oil (cocoa and water mixture) through a watershed to a body of water.
Best management practices include felt buffer strips as vegetation, clay to create berms and other methods to show conservation and water pollution prevention measures at work. It discusses nonpoint source pollution and the steps everyone can take to help prevent environmental contamination. It is also good for discussion about overall watershed concepts.
Nonpoint Source teaches the watershed concept in addition to point and nonpoint source pollution. Two waterways flow into a larger water body, which is representative of a lake, river, bay, or ocean. The unit comes complete with a kit containing everything you need to demonstrate the movement of water through a watershed and the pollution that runoff may cause.

EnviroScape® Hazardous Materials Model
We buy and use hazardous materials every day. Fuels, solvents, pesticides and fertilizers need to be manufactured, transported, stored, used and eventually disposed.
What happens when hazardous materials are improperly discharged, disposed or accidentally spilled on land?
EnviroScape Hazardous Materials shows potential sources of pollution; proper use and disposal options for hazardous materials; prevention practices to keep hazardous materials from adversely affecting the environment; methods used to clean up hazardous waste sites, discharges and spills; and environmental and health risks associated with contamination.
Issues addressed on the model include: underground storage tanks, contaminated lagoon, abandoned warehouse, old, unlined dump and transportation. Also includes residential and commercial areas and buildings.

EnviroScape® Riparian Kit
EnviroScape's Riparian Kit addresses the benefits and values of riparian buffers -- areas including trees and other vegetation adjacent to the banks of streams, rivers and lakes. The kit's guide explores the positive effects of good riparian buffers as well as activities that contribute to poor riparian buffer zones.

cooler water temperatures and shading for in-stream organisms (canopy cover);
reduced volume and rate of flooding (water infiltration);
food sources for in-stream organisms (protective habitat);
